Most small hotels still answer with one shared password printed on a card, a password that has been the same for months and has probably been posted online already. There is a better way. A hotel Wi-Fi PMS integration links your guest network to your booking data. Each guest gets their own Wi-Fi access when they check in, and it stops working when they check out. Softinn's FATboy now does this with TP-Link Omada, the network platform many Southeast Asian hotels already run. ## Why Is a Shared Hotel Wi-Fi Password a Problem? Using one Wi-Fi password for the entire hotel might seem convenient, but it comes with a few challenges. - **Anyone can continue using it.** Past guests, the café next door and people in the car park all use your bandwidth, and in-house guests complain the Wi-Fi is slow. - **Changing it is troublesome.** Every change means reprinting cards and updating signs, so most hotels never change it. - **No link to the stay.** You can't tell who is on the network or when their access should end. - **More work at the front desk.** "What's the Wi-Fi password?" gets asked at check-in, over the phone and at the desk, over and over. This isn't only a hotelier issue. IT providers who manage hotel networks often go looking for a guest portal that can connect to a hotel PMS. What they usually find is enterprise kit priced for 500-room chains, not for a 40-room boutique hotel in Melaka.   ## How FATboy and TP-Link Omada Work Together FATboy connects directly to the Softinn PMS. The guest walks away with everything they need on one slip. 2. **Front desk check-in:** Staff click once in FATboy to print the Wi-Fi credentials. The Wi-Fi code also shows on screen, so staff can copy it and send it to the guest on WhatsApp. That's handy for guests who'd rather not keep paper, or who message later asking for it again. 3. **At check-out:** The password expires automatically. If a guest checks out early, their access is disabled right away. You can also set a grace period so guests stay connected for a while after check-out, for example while they wait for a ride in the lobby. Nobody types passwords into the controller. Nobody reprints cards. Guests expect to arrive, check in and get connected without waiting in line. Owners face rising staff costs and hiring is getting harder.
